Cappidy the Sporeslinger

A pocket-sized cowboy fairy who wanders the nooks & crannies of a fabled magical forest. He sits under bigger mushrooms, playing songs with his little guitar and sharing wisdom with curious hikers.

Thought to be a myth existing only in legends, Colt Cappidy is a mushroom fairy: a fairy whose magic is derived from mushrooms! In fact, as far as he himself knows, Colt is the only fairy he's aware of that's of the mushroom-inspired variety. All the other fae he's met are more fans of... well, flowers, or leaves, or shiny gemstones. And that's all fine ‘n dandy, and he doesn't mind catching up with his fae colleagues every once in a blue moon, but he more so prefers to do work on his own.

He wanders from place to place within the forest of the magical mountains he and other magical beings call home, without really settling down in one spot for too long. Rocking the cap of an Amanita he reaped for the benefits, he carries around a mini guitar on his back and a bindle with a sack of spores and, when he can, makes several stops during his travels to introduce beneficial mushroom species to new areas that need them, having the magic gift to grow them however he likes. On top of that, he's faring pretty well with his potion-selling gig on the side, where he brews & bottles an assortment of potions made from rather, uh, unorthodox ingredients like the slime of dream slugs and the venom of flying snakes (they really fly), then sets up stand like he's selling lemonade. He's managed to snag a few loyal customers here & there and has even recently gotten a delivery service off the ground. He's got a badger as a royal steed and a roly poly as a loyal tumbleweed. Life ain't that bad.

One day, while filling up a basket of sunflower seeds to bring back to camp to snack on, he was somehow, (miraculously) summoned, after some madcap took an audacious step into his fairy ring. No one had ever done that before! To his surprise, he was met with a witch who, to his further surprise, was also a cowboy! Who (to his extreme surprise) was also more than gleeful to see him. They hit it off right away, one thing led to another, and now our little cowboy fairy tags along with our bigger cowboy witch from time to time on his many fun-filled side quests & adventures.

Colt is a big fan of Hayden, whether that be because the cowboy witch helps him out every once in awhile with his business & endeavors, or because Hayden delivers him scrumptious tiny baked treats on occasion, or because he finds Hayden funny, or because they've both got good taste in bold, stylish yet comfortable hats and an insatiable appetite for adventure, but whatever the reason, Colt rests assured knowing he's got a friend in Hayden who he can always rely on.

Where will his mushy adventures take him now? Only time will tell for sure...

TRIVIA

Mush Around & Fungus Out

Cappidy's cap is none other than the whimsical fly agaric. This species, while iconic in the mushroom world, is poisonous, so it does serve as a safeguard for Colt against creatures who might see a lil fun guy as a tasty snack. After taking a bite of the cap, the victim may experience a number of symptoms including but not limited to: nausea, eye-watering, confusion, and hallucinations (though death is rare). This cowboy fairy ain't on the menu, so don't play with fire unless you wanna get turnt!

All in a Shroom's Work

Sure mushrooms are versatile, but did you know Cappidy's cap just so happens to be 300-in-1? As well as functioning as a perfect hat, Colt has found ways to give it countless additional practical uses: it can work just as nicely as a helmet, shield, bed, pillow, umbrella, boat, etc., even a snack if it's high noon.

Another great thing about having a mushroom cap as a hat is that if Colt ever loses it or it gets eaten or destroyed, he can just harvest a new one from another mushroom.

Sproutastic

Underneath Cappidy's cap is a tiny sprout springing upwards from where a cowlick would be. This sprout is highly sensitive and also indicative of Colt's mood (it droops when he's sad and shoots up straight when he's excited). When he's feeling very happy or affectionate, it may even bloom a tiny yellow flower. His cap also serves to cover & protect this sprout against the elements and anyone or anything that might want to touch it. Don't pull or tug on it (he will cry).
