At first glance, he might seem like your ordinary witchy cowboy. But aside from lassoing spirits and getting his boots muddy in black magic, Hayden has made a name for himself as a certain acephalous legend that haunts the night.
Somethin' wicked this way rides....
Trick or treat! Meet Hayden Hawthorne, the Headless Horseman. Yes, the Headless Horseman – the man, the myth, the legend of Sleepy Hollow.
The thing is, he's not really missing his noggin’. What you’re seeing, or not seeing for that matter, is just an elaborate magic trick at play. The ghoulish decapitated rider and his eerie spectral steed are not a real dullahan – but rather, Hayden and his unicorn Salem putting on a wicked thriller of a horror show for some good ol' fashioned All Hallows’ Eve fun, in true gothic western style.
Hayden is a cowboy like his father and a witch like his mother. This makes him a cowboy witch, and as all cowboy witches do, he partakes in cowboyish stuff during the day and witchy things at night. (Cowboys and witches are the same entity but separated by night and day.)
Hayden is pumpkin spice and everything nice. Sure he’s made a thing of striking fear into the hearts of many as a phantasmic horror, but he’s got a big heart (and an even bigger dream). Wherever his journey takes him, he's sure to do a bit of chaotic good here and there along the way. But he’s definitely got somewhat of a delinquent streak, as well as a penchant for stirring up mischief and chaos in his pursuit of fun. You'll find that he's got more than a few magic tricks up his sleeve.
Hayden wears a talking stylish green stetson hat named Andy. You heard that right, Andy is talking hat, and a handsome one at that. Andy will not hesitate to let anyone who will listen know what a fine piece of headwear he is. Aside from being a fancy garment, he’s supposedly Hayden’s familiar, but what he really is remains a mystery.
Hayden lives at Heartridge Cabin, a magical abode in the Wicked Woods of the Moonstone Mountains. This cozy cabin is Hayden’s beloved home and the heart of the mountains. When Hayden is not out on one of his chaotic-filled adventures, you can usually find him at home, where there is always something magical to do. Healing the souls of all those who step through its doors, Heartridge is a haven with a strong foundation built on magic and love.
Hayden meets all sorts of friends on his adventures. Magical folk, mythical beasts, troubled souls. Some, like Hayden himself, are quite different from how they’re written in the legends and fairy tales. Hayden wants to know their real story – who they are, their hopes, their dreams. Hayden has a dream of his own – to help lost souls find a home. His cabin is a haven for all those who seek comfort and a place to stay.
Ask Hayden his occupation to make ends meet, and he’ll tell you he’s a “paranormal investigator”. As it turns out, ghost hunting is right up his alley (and also quite lucrative). Well, he doesn’t hunt ghosts – he helps them. Phantoms are just souls that wish to be put to rest, after all.
Hayden isn’t any ol’ witch; he’s a Jasper. The Jaspers were a legendary coven of powerful witches who were hunted down to oblivion by a mysterious harbinger of evil known only as Conquest.
Hayden’s parents, Dale Hawthorne and Vespera Jasper, were made aware of their son’s destiny. They did everything they could to ensure Hayden would live a happy and good life, including leaving him in the care of Andy. Hayden was given his father’s surname, Hawthorne, for protection.
As a Jasper witch, Hayden is capable of harnessing powerful magic and witchcraft, but he has much to learn. Every day is an opportunity to practice old magic tricks and learn new ones.
Hayden also has a secret (a shocking one that not even he knows of yet): he’s a Horseman – a harbinger of the end times. Specifically, the Fifth. He has four “brothers”: Conquest, War, Famine, and Death. Only a few know of the existence of a Fifth Horseman – Chaos. Little does he know, Hayden is Chaos incarnate whose fate is written in the stars: he is to bring about the world’s demise. But Hayden has other plans (like saving the world instead)... and perhaps the one thing that can challenge Fate itself, is Chaos.

TRIVIA
Cozy Cowboy
Hayden's style is lovingly fall-inspired and everything in his wardrobe is exceptionally comfy. Even his boots have ultra-cushy insoles. Andy is also quite comfortable.
You Set My Heart On Fire
Hayden is particularly adept at fire-based magic. Fire, while destructive, can also give way to growth and rebirth in forests. Hayden holds the flame that sparks life into his creations and keeps the magic of Heartridge Cabin burning brightly.
Serotonin is Stored in the Supernatural Satchel
Packing for an adventure? Hayden's got a backpack for travel essentials, outdoor gear, and snacks. But for the more magical goodies in his inventory, he's equipped with a supernatural satchel, which is about as magic as the stuff it holds; it's seemingly bottomless with infinite storage capacity. Something like this is virtually impossible to keep organized, and he often has to do a fair amount of digging around before he can find what he's looking for. Is it a portal to another dimension or something? (Not even Hayden himself knows.)
Catching S'more Cryptids
Perhaps it's because the Headless Horseman is a cryptid himself, but Hayden and cryptids go together like marshmallow and chocolate between two graham crackers. Did he mention he likes s'mores? So do cryptids apparently, who Hayden can't help sharing one of his favorite treats with. Who knew Mothman was a such chill guy with a sweet tooth!
Weeds Want Me, Folks Fear Me
As a certified horticulture enthusiast, Hayden is armed with an arsenal of spells in his saddle bag that aid in the growth & care of flora, making it possible to cultivate any kind of plant in the mountains. A lush garden with a chaotic variety of flowers, herbs, fruits, and veggies thrives right in his backyard that he can harvest to his heart's content.
Lumberjacked
For every tree Hayden chops down to use as firewood, build furniture, make a birdhouse, expand the cabin, craft a wooden toy, carve a sculpture, make another birdhouse because a squirrel somehow broke the other one, fashion a new handle for his axe to chop down more trees because that broke too, etc. he plants and grows ten more.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Where there's a will there's a way, and Hayden has found a way to transform Heartridge Cabin into an even more magical abode during the holiday season. Halloween & Christmastime are the perfect excuse to get wickedly festive, and Hayden's got a trick or two to get into the holiday spirit.
Dead Eye
Hayden has a hauntingly unique ability – he can see ghosts. This makes him a fine necromancer and a superb paranormal investigator. Being able to gaze upon the spirits of the dead does have its downsides, though. Sometimes seeing is believing, and other times seeing is hallucinating... and the haunter can become the haunted.
The Chaotic Good, The Chaotic Bad, and The Chaotic Ugly
As Hayden gets older, Chaos manifests itself stronger within him, and Andy finds it more and more difficult to keep in check. It eventually gets to a point where he can’t help but stir up chaos wherever he goes. Magic tricks gone awry, good luck turned bad, his horror shows getting chaotically out of hand. Hayden will find himself in a spiritual struggle to keep Chaos from taking the reins and wreaking havoc. Or else he might lose his mind, and end up setting the world on fire.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Repressing chaos is spiritually exhausting, to say the least. As the chaos within Hayden grows more powerful, he burns through more and more energy to keep it at bay. This leaves his mana more drained than usual, to the point of him falling into random short bouts of sleep throughout the day. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, indeed.
